I have been taking pictures for a long time. I am not sure of the age at which I first took a picture but it was when I was a child. My father had a 35mm camera that he let me use. Back then most pictures were of people or people in front of signs, weddings, or family reunions. I didn’t take pictures of buildings and flowers like I do now. 🙂
Move up to 2001 and that seems to be when I started to move outside of people pictures. But at that time it was still a hobby that I took or left. At that time I also had a digital camera, this was way less expensive than the film cameras that I had before. In 2012 I got my first DSLR (Canon T3). I became a little more serious. But last year, 2015, I became even more serious. I started to read and study more on photography. I looked at a lot of YouTube videos on how to take pictures.
During this time I also developed an interest in art. I discovered that knowing the artist’s back story makes their art so much more beautiful. So as this interest in being more serious about my photography increased and this knowledge that photography is in fact art started to collide I discovered The Art of Photography YouTube channel and The Art of Photography website. The host and owner is Ted Forbes.Ted has created multiple outlets and the one that I found first was the The Art of Photography YouTube channel. I was trying to see how art influenced photography. What I found on that channel is a treasure of information about what I will call historic photographers, living ones also. He opened my eyes to the world of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Edward Steichen, Robert Frank, and many more. I already knew about Ansel Adams. These photographers had created new genre’s of photography or had helped the world see that photography is indeed art. He also introduced me to John Free. There is a lot to see on Ted’s channel. I am still trying to view them all and it will take a while. Each time I do, I learn so much. For this, I have to give Ted the thumbs up for creating one of my favorite photography resources. Check out The Art of Photography YouTube channel you won’t be disappointed. The channels introductory video can be found here.
