- [Synology NAS](https://tmichellemoore.com/synology-nas/): Every few years I have to buy an additional external drive to hold all of my pictures. It is a ridiculous ritual where I will purchase the drive, previously 2TB and the last three were 5TB, and copy from here to there and try to make sure I had ALL of my pictures. This year, I invested in the Synology DS923+. I had always wanted a Drobo because all of the other photographers had one. :-) Upon doing research for which one to purchase, the recommendations all pointed to the Synology. - [Sideling Hill, Hancock, MD](https://tmichellemoore.com/sideling-hill-hancock-md/): Sideling Hill is a mountain that we have driven through numerous times on trips to my customer in West Virginia, trips to drop off and pickup our daughter at school, and on other excursions. It is on Route 68 in Hancock, MD. It is worth a stop at the rest area to walk to the pedestrian bridge to view the mountain. Or just stand in the parking lot and look out at the valley. Below are a few pictures from various trips through the area.

It was beautiful and you can see the Washington Monument from one portion of the trail.

- [Tidal Basin, Washington, DC 2023-11-04](https://tmichellemoore.com/tidal-basin-washington-dc-2023-11-04/): On this walk around the Tidal Basin, in downtown Washington, DC, many trees were a little past peak color but still beautiful. The light was a little harsh so as I took pictures of the cherry trees, it was hard to show their age and twisted form. The sky was beautiful. The temperature was perfect. And the city was beautiful. If you ever come for the Cherry Blossom Festival, this is the home of the trees that you would see in most pictures.
- [Birthday Portrait, 2023-11-10](https://tmichellemoore.com/birthday-portrait-2023-11-10/): Last year, I decided to change my social media photo on my birthday each year going forward. So here is the second one. But there is the same slight flaw from last year. Though the high was only about 47 degrees F, when I took the picture the temperature in my house felt like it was 80 degrees F! At each click, the humidity increased and thus my hair puffed out more and more, just like last year. 🙂

- [Patuxent Research Refuge - North Tract, 2023-07-08](https://tmichellemoore.com/patuxent-research-refuge-north-tract-2023-07-08/): One of our favorite spots is the Patuxent Research Refuge – North Tract. When we return there after not visiting for a few weeks, the changes are visible in the spring and summer. The growth in the flowers and trees is very evident, especially after it rains. The photo below is a very large broken off tree top.

Eisenhower Memorial. I have driven down this street many times and have never seen this memorial. The morning was beautiful and the site was very peaceful.

One boat in particular seemed like it was taking on water because it was so low in the water but the the people on the boat seemed just fine.

- [Roosevelt Island, Washington, DC, 2023-06-17](https://tmichellemoore.com/roosevelt-island-washington-dc-2023-06-17/): Roosevelt Island is a very peaceful location located between Georgetown and Rosslyn. After taking a ~1.25 mile walk around the island we visited the inner section where you can sit among the ponds in the peaceful inner area.
- [Watercolor Trees 2023-06-10](https://tmichellemoore.com/watercolor-trees-2023-06-10/): I painted along with Jenna Rainey’s Easiest Way to Paint TEN Trees with Watercolor video. It is a great tutorial. I definitiely need to continue to work on my brush strokes. I could see the motions that she was making as she was painting but could not fully imitate them. But I am still happy with my results.
- [The Mall, Washington, DC, 2023-06-04](https://tmichellemoore.com/the-mall-washington-dc-2023-06-04/): We had a wonderful walk around The Mall in DC today. I took a few pictures of the curved upper floors of the National Museum of the American Indian. We saw a beautiful hawk in a tree. We also discovered that the gardens around the Smithsonian Institution Building (The Castle) are beautiful and a nice peaceful place to just go and sit and enjoy the environment.

During this visit we walked 2 miles, south one mile and back. Birds The highlight of the walk was seeing an owl and three Great Blue Herons. Reptiles We saw multiple turtles. Trees If I am in a forest, I am going to take a picture of a tree. Actually, I am going to take more tree pictures than anything else. Water On this part of the path you can see the Potomac some and then you can see the islands that are between the path and the Potomac. […]

- [C&O Canal, Monocacy Aqueduct, Dickerson, MD, 2023-05-26](https://tmichellemoore.com/co-canal-monocacy-aqueduct-dickerson-md-2023-05-26/): All I can say is beautiful. The day was beautiful. The clouds were beautiful. And this aqueduct, which was a great idea for its day, was beautiful. I am not sure I can say that about the one lane bridge that we had to cross to get to the aqueduct parking.
- [C&O Canal, Lock 21, Swains Lock, 2023-05-26](https://tmichellemoore.com/co-canal-lock-21-swains-lock-2023-05-26/): We went back to Swains Lock specifically to visit the Dierssen Wildlife Management Area. It looked like it had the potential to have water in it and many birds. On this day, the foliage had grown up so much that you really couldn’t see through it. It also looked like there was not a lot of water in the marshy area. So we picked up an went to the Monocacy Aqueduct.

From learning network administration or computer repair, which I taught, to the Cisco Networking Academy, to culinary arts, cosmetology, boat repair, auto repair, HVAC, construction, Nursing assisting, dental assisting, drafting, and welding, there are so many opportunities in high school. I also encouraged my kids to be “dual” computers which means they are on an academic track also. - [Wilmer Park, Chestertown, MD, 2023-05-06](https://tmichellemoore.com/wilmer-park-chestertown-md-2023-05-06/): Today’s skies were so beautiful! Today’s excursion took us to Chestertown. The skies were beautiful and Wilmer Park was nice as it always is. It is a simple park with a playground, pavilion, and walkway along the water. I think I like it because the water makes it a very calm location. Pictures of our excursion are below.
- [Bookbinding a Sketchbook with Stitched Single Pages](https://tmichellemoore.com/bookbinding-a-sketchbook-with-stitched-single-pages/): I decided that I wanted a sketchbook for my watercolor painting. In deciding which one to buy I ran across a video on bookbinding. And decided to make my own. At first I tried the perfect binding by using glue to bind single sheets. I suspect I didn't layer on enough glue. I then looked for ways to sew it together. I decided to use the coptic stitch. It may actually be some variation. :-) And I finally finished the 28 page sketchbook this morning. It is a little imperfect but that is ok for the first try. #bookbinding

In that time I have listened to a lot of YouTube tutorials and practiced some. But I felt that I needed a little more structure and a YouTuber, Kris DeBruine, recommended “The Ultimate Watercolor Course” from Reader’s Digest. I decided to purchase it and start back at step 1. Though it may not be pretty and could cause a little embarrassment :-), I am going to post my progress.
- [Patuxent Research Refuge - North Tract, Laurel, MD, 2023-03-11](https://tmichellemoore.com/patuxent-research-refuge-north-tract-laurel-md-2023-03-11/): On this trip to the refuge, the sky was so beautiful that I didn’t even want to convert these photos to black and white. We saw a hooded merganser. We visited the big tree and just walked to get in a couple of miles. I never tire of this location which is just down the road. That was only a partial success. I installed the SharePoint Online Management Shell using Homebrew. But I don’t exactly know how to use it. 🙂 I know how to use DOS so it probably is similar. It is about 5 miles southeast of the visitor’s center (map below). On the way to the Cattail Pond Parking lot, there is a stretch of power lines. All of the trails were closed so we had to walk along the street and this side of the refuge is great for this. We passed by Cattail Pond, Bailey Marsh, and over the Little Patuxent River.
