IndieWeb Website: Vision, Assumptions, Constraints, Risks, and Requirements

I had to sit down and think about how I would like to implement my IndieWeb site. I documented the only way that I know how from my project management background, through assumptions, constraints, risk, and requirements.

Vision

The vision for this website is to own my own content, so that the site is the source of all writings and photography related to Michelle Moore Consulting LLC, Thelma Michelle Moore Photography, and Thelma Michelle Moore personally.

Goals

The goals of the site would be to:

  • Document my Learning
  • Share with Others
  • Encourage Others
  • Sell my Photography
  • Sell my Services (future)

Assumptions

  • This blog will be the source of all of my posts.
  • The blog will be the source of most web based replies, except for personal Facebook account replies to personal postings.
  • This blog will represent T Michelle Moore, a trade name for Michelle Moore Consulting LLC and will also contain a Personal section to represent Michelle Moore’s option. This original domain name was Michelle’s personal website.
  • All featured images will be hosted in the WordPress media library as there is no other option that I can find at this time.
  • All other photos will be hosted on SmugMug and linked or embedded into pages and posts.
  • It is understood that some communications between various websites will not always be automated. This will depend on the destination site and my technical ability.

Constraints

  • The theme used will most likely be the current WordPress theme, such as Twenty Twenty Three and it may not support things such as post formats.
  • The website will use WordPress and will always be on the latest version of WordPress.
  • The website will use the WordPress block editor, not the classic editor.
  • Note: I have already seen that these constraints may make this effort a little more difficult to implement using the available tools.

Risks

  • The only risk is that I don’t have the skills to implement some of the technology.

Requirements

Must Haves

As a website owner and author, I would like to be able to:

  • Have a website that supports the concept of Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere (POSSE) to the greatest extent possible within the constraints and assumptions, so that I can own my own content.
  • Automatically or at will post a post excerpt and link to Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Mastodon with a link back to the original post, so that I can share my content and thoughts.
  • At will post a post excerpt and link to LinkedIn, so that I can share my content and thoughts.
  • Use the website to reply to blog posts of others, so that I can own my own content and share my thoughts.
  • Use the website posts to reply to social media posts, so that I can own my own content and share my thoughts.
  • Embed SmugMug images, so that I can protect my images and possibly sell a photo one day. 🙂

Nice to Haves

As a website owner and author, I would like to be able to:

  • Have a website that supports the concept of Publish Elsewhere, Syndicate (to your) Own Site (PESOS)  to the greatest extent possible, so that my website is the record of the conversation on other websites. (I need to learn more about this.)
  • Become a Fediverse Mastodon node. (More research needed on the implications of becoming a Mastodon node and the impact on my current Mastodon account.)
  • Use the post tags as the tags in social media posts.
