Capital Area Blogging Diva’s Meetup and Selecting a Blog Niche

I attended a meetup of the Capital Area Blogging Diva’s on November 14, 2015. During this meeting we talked about starting a blog and reviewed many tips. The most important thing that I took away was that I needed to select a niche for my blog. I was like noooo I can’t select a niche. I have to many interests. I came home and thought about it. At the meeting one of the ladies asked if I was a photographer when they saw my website. I said sort of. I said that because I don’t get paid for it, I am not a professional photographer. I left and started to think really hard and said, yes I am a photographer. I have been taking pictures for most of my life. My father had a 35mm camera when I was younger and I had free reign over it. I learned about f-stops, shutter speed, and ISO way back then. I did not hone the craft as I could have but I took a lot of pictures since those early years. When limited by the cost of film, 36 pictures, and the cost of developing film, you might not take all of the pictures that you could take. As digital cameras came along, I took even MORE pictures and am only limited by time and hard drive space.

Since the meeting I have created a new website and blog, the Viable View. I have decided on a niche – photography. It is the photography of my excursions (local) and travel (further than a day trip). I hope to provide my experiences in photos and provide a glimpse of new things to my audience. I also hope to delve more into black and white photography. I have said that I love black and white photography but yet have not created much of it.

I will be blogging on this site about the usual eclectic topics that I am interested in:

  • Blogging
  • Learning and Development
  • Project and Program Management
  • Technology
  • and other topics. 🙂

Over time I will share the resources from the Blogging Diva’s and other resources that have been beneficial. I will also introduce you to some of the Blogging Diva’s as we create our blogs.
